Key features in each section

Designed for ease of use, the Playback page's functional layout is divided into the following three main sections:

Sidebar

The sidebar serves as a quick access panel for frequently used tools on the page. It includes practical features such as Dolby Vision, Trim, Keyframe, Snapshot, Highlights, Favorites, Tag, and Delete, allowing you to quickly access various editing and management tools to meet your basic editing and tagging needs during video playback.

Key Features

  • Dolby Vision: Please refer to Insta360 App: Dolby Vision.
  • Keyframe: Please refer to Insta360 App: Keyframes & Movement.
  • Highlights: The "Highlights" option in the sidebar can intelligently select exciting moments in videos using the APEI algorithm.

Please note: For Android devices, only models with Qualcomm chipsets support the APEI algorithm, and there are no restrictions for iOS devices.

Editing section at the bottom

The bottom of the Playback page provides intuitive access to editing features. The editing paths differ between Insta360 app versions. Choose the corresponding method based on your version, or search for "Insta360" in the Apple App Store or your device's app store, then tap "Update" to update the app, or visit the Insta360 Website to download the latest version.

For Insta360 app v2.0.0 or later

insta360

  • Auto Edit: This is the preferred tool for quick video creation. The AI algorithm automatically identifies highlights in your video when you tap Auto Edit, generating a complete, shareable video, ideal for quick recording and sharing scenarios.
  • Editor: This is the core feature for detailed creation. Tapping it opens the professional editing page, which supports in-depth editing operations like clip trimming, color grading, adding music, keyframes, etc., catering to personalized creative production.
  • Record: Tapping it allows you to record video content from the current player page, suitable for extracting specific clips for secondary creation.

For Insta360 app versions prior to v2.0.0

insta360

AI / Quick / Pro: A classic combination of editing features, with their access points located at the top of the page.

FOV adjustment section

The FOV options are specifically designed for adjusting the FOV of 360 videos. Insta360 app v2.0.0 and later versions have optimized and integrated these features. Please refer to the following FOV adjustment features, which comprehensively cover various scenarios such as daily shooting, landscape recording, and InstaFrame.

insta360

  • Custom (360): This is equivalent to the default FOV in older versions, allowing you to freely drag the screen 360° in all directions to view every detail in 360 videos.

Please note: In older Insta360 app versions (below v2.0.0), changing the FOV of a 360 video requires adding keyframes or going to the Quick page.

  • Selfie/Forward: Supports switching between a selfie view focusing on yourself or a forward-facing view. Whether you're recording travel scenery, shooting life vlogs, or sharing live scenes, it quickly adapts to shooting needs, making FOV switching more flexible.
  • Please note: In older Insta360 app versions (below v2.0.0), this feature is only available on the Quick page or when selecting clips after AI analysis. In newer versions, it can be accessed directly from the Playback page for more convenient operation.
  • AI Frame: A newly introduced AI panoramic effect that automatically recognizes highlights in videos and captures ideal FOV, achieving a seamless, single-take playback effect.
  • InstaFrame: This is a unique feature exclusive to Insta360 X5, enabling precise dynamic tracking of a subject. For specific usage instructions and notes, please refer to X5: InstaFrame Mode.

FAQ

1. What is the difference between "AI Frame" and "Highlights" on the Playback page?

Both are based on AI algorithms but are designed for different purposes and scenarios:

  • AI Frame: Its core lies in "FOV generation", which automatically finds highlight FOV in a video through the APEI algorithm to achieve a single-take playback effect. Path: Tap "AI Frame" at the bottom of the Playback page. After generation, recommended FOV and alternative FOV are provided for selection.

Please note: For Android devices with non-Qualcomm processors, this feature will not be displayed by default if compatibility requirements are not met.

  • Highlights: Its core lies in "clip selection". In older Insta360 app versions (below v2.0.0), it refers to highlights generated by AI analysis after AI framing or highlights analyzed by AI Highlights Assistant on the camera. It can be accessed from the sidebar. Instructions:
    • If your camera has "AI Highlights Assistant" enabled, you can directly view the analysis results by tapping "Highlights" in the sidebar after connecting to the Insta360 app.
    • If AI Highlights Assistant is not enabled on your camera, tapping "Highlights" will cause the Insta360 app to re-analyze and generate the highlights using its built-in algorithm.

2. Why can't I see the "AI Frame" feature? Why can't I use the "AI Frame" feature?

The "AI Frame" feature has compatibility requirements for device hardware. Please check the following information to confirm if your device is supported:

iOS devices: iPhone XS and later models (released in 2018 and after), and all iPad models.

Android devices (the following processors are required):

  • Qualcomm: Snapdragon 888 (excluding Samsung models), 8Gen1/8Gen2/8Gen3/8Elite, 7Gen1/7Gen2/7Gen3, 6Gen1, 778G, and later models.
  • MediaTek: Dimensity 9000, 9200+, 9300, 9400, 7050, 8200, 8250, and later models.
  • Google: Tensor, Tensor2, Tensor3, Tensor4, and later models.

If your device is not on the list above, you can try enabling "Performance Mode" and then using the feature: Open the Insta360 app > tap "Me" > swipe down to find and enable "Performance Mode". Please refer to: Insta360 App: Compatibility Mode, Performance Mode, and Proxy Mode.

3. Why doesn't the Insta360 app for Android display the rule-of-thirds grid lines when editing 360 media, while the iOS version does?

Currently, the Playback page in the Insta360 app for Android already supports the display of rule-of-thirds grid lines. However, the Quick page and Pro page do not yet support this feature. We will continuously optimize our products to provide you with a better user experience. Thank you for your understanding and support!
