X Series: How to Check and Update Firmware Version

Firmware updates enhance camera performance and add new features. This article describes how to check and update firmware version of ONE X, X2, X3, X4, and X5, helping you complete the process quickly for the best shooting experience.

How to check current firmware version

Swipe down from the top of the camera screen to access the "Shortcut" menu > tap "Settings" (Gear icon ⚙) > tap "Camera Info" to check the current firmware version.

How to check the latest firmware version

Method 1: Via the Insta360 website
  1. Open a web browser and visit the Insta360 website.
  2. Select your camera model on the page, and then click "Software".
  3. Scroll down the page to find "Insta360 xx Firmware" (where "xx" corresponds to your camera model) and check the latest firmware version for that model.
Method 2: Via the Insta360 app
  1. Connect the camera to the Insta360 app. ​
  2. Tap "Me" > swipe down and tap "Device Settings" > "Firmware Version".
  3. If there is no red dot next to the firmware version number, your camera is up-to-date. If a red dot is present, tap it and follow the on-screen instructions to update the firmware.

How to update firmware?

Method 1: Via the Insta360 app
  1. Open the Insta360 app and connect the camera to your phone.
  2. If a new firmware version is available, the Insta360 app will display a notification. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the update.

Please note:

  • Keep the camera within 2 meters of your phone during the update.
  • During the update, keep the Insta360 app running in the foreground; do not exit or minimize the app.
  • Ensure your phone has a stable Internet connection.

Method 2: Via a computer using a USB cable
  1. Power on the camera, connect it to your computer using the officially supplied USB cable, and select "U-Disk Mode" on the camera screen.
  2. Visit the Insta360 website, and download the latest firmware file for your camera model to your computer. Copy the downloaded file (do not rename it) to the root directory of the camera's storage on the computer.
  3. Disconnect the camera from the computer. The camera will then power off automatically. Turn the camera back on. After a moment, the firmware update starts and the indicator light flashes blue.
  4. The camera will restart automatically once the update is complete.

Method 3: Via an SD card using a computer
  1. Visit the Insta360 website, and download the latest firmware file for your camera model to your computer. Do not rename the file.
  2. Remove the SD card from your camera, ensure it is formatted as exFAT, insert it into a card reader/USB flash drive, and connect it to your computer.
  3. Copy the downloaded firmware file to the root directory of the SD card.
  4. Reinsert the SD card into the camera and power it on.
  5. A firmware update prompt will appear automatically on the camera screen. Follow the steps to complete the update.
