Mic Series: How to Update Firmware for Transmitter, Receiver, and Charging Case
Applicable Models: Mic Air and Mic Pro
A firmware update is essential for optimizing device performance and enhancing operational stability. This article provides detailed instructions on how to update the device firmware.
How to update the firmware for Mic Pro
Updating the Mic Pro firmware requires connecting to the Insta360 app. Before proceeding, ensure your Insta360 app is updated to the latest version. To update the app, search for "Insta360" in Apple App Store or your device's app store. If an "Update" button appears, tap it to update. Alternatively, you can visit the Insta360 Website to download the latest version of the Insta360 app.
Method 1: Updating by connecting the receiver to the Insta360 app
This method applies to a complete kit with a paired receiver and transmitter(s) (i.e., 1 TX + 1 RX or 2 TX + 1 RX). It supports updating the receiver and multiple transmitters simultaneously. The steps are as follows:
- Make sure the receiver and all transmitters are successfully paired, then connect the receiver to your phone using the phone adapter.
Please refer to: Mic Pro: Pairing and Mic Series: How to Connect to Phones, Tablets, and Computers
- Open the Insta360 app (ensure it is up to date). Your phone will automatically detect the device and display a "New firmware ready" prompt. You can also manually check for updates by going to "Me" > "Device Settings" > "Device Firmware Info". When a new firmware is found, tap "Update Now".
- The Insta360 app will scan the receiver and all connected transmitters, showing the available version and update details.
- Keep your phone sufficiently charged and the network connection stable. The update process will proceed automatically. During the update, the devices will restart automatically; the Function Indicator and the Recording Status Indicator on the transmitter will flash alternately while the receiver screen shows the update progress. All devices can be updated in one go.
- After the update is complete, the devices will restart automatically. Follow the prompts to pair them with the Insta360 app again.
Please note: Do not disconnect or turn off the devices during the update. Updating multiple transmitters simultaneously takes relatively longer. Please be patient.
Method 2: Updating by connecting to the Insta360 app via Bluetooth
This method applies to updating a single transmitter or receiver, or when you do not have the adapter with you. The receiver or transmitter can connect directly to the Insta360 app via Bluetooth to complete the update. The steps are as follows:
- Put the device into the pairing mode
- Receiver: Swipe down from the top of the touchscreen to enter the Control Center > tap "Connection APP".
- Transmitter: Quickly press the power button three times until the Function Indicator flashes rapidly, indicating it has entered the pairing mode.
- Connect the device to the Insta360 app
Turn on Bluetooth on your phone and launch the latest version of the Insta360 app. Tap the camera icon at the bottom of the Home page, or tap "Me" > "Device Settings" > "Connect Device", then search for the device and complete pairing accordingly.
- Check for and update firmware
- The Insta360 app will automatically detect the device. If new firmware is found, a prompt will appear.
- You can also manually check for updates by going to "Me" > "Device Settings" > "Device Firmware Info".
- Start the update
- During the update, the Function Indicator and the Recording Status Indicator on the transmitter will flash alternately.
- After the update is complete, the device will restart automatically. Follow the prompts to pair it with the Insta360 app again.
Please note:
- Before updating, ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your phone and the distance between the device and the phone is not greater than 3.3ft (1m).
- Do not operate the device or close the Insta360 app during the update. Updating via Bluetooth is supported for only one device at a time. If you have multiple devices to update, complete one and then connect the next one sequentially.
Method 3: Updating by connecting to a computer
This method applies when a single transmitter or receiver is to be updated or a connection to the Insta360 app is unavailable. Update the firmware via a computer by following these steps:
- Visit the Insta360 Website, search for your device model, and download the latest firmware file.
- Connect the device directly to your computer using a USB-C cable. Wait for the computer to recognize the device in the U-Disk Mode (or the File Transfer Mode).
- Copy the downloaded firmware file (do not change the file name) to the root directory of the device.
- After copying, safely remove the device from your computer, then disconnect the USB-C cable.
- The transmitter will automatically recognize the firmware file and begin the update. During the update, the Function Indicator and the Recording Status Indicator on the transmitter will flash alternately.
- After the update is complete, the device will restart automatically, and the Function Indicator on the transmitter will become solidly lit.
Please note:
- Before updating, ensure the device's battery level is above 25% to avoid power failure during the update.
- Keep the firmware file name unchanged; do not rename, unzip, or modify it.
- Do not power off, disconnect the cable, or operate the device during the update.
