GPS Preview Remote

Remote: Connection and Transmission Issues

Remote: Connection and Transmission Issues

Applicable Models: GPS Preview Remote (with Built-in Mic), GPS Preview Remote, GPS Action Remote, Mini Remote, and Ring Remote

Scenario 1: Camera connection failure or unstable camera connection

Description
  • The remote fails to connect to or wake up the camera
  • The remote disconnects from the camera
  • The remote keeps showing "Connecting..."
  • Unstable, intermittent connection between the remote and the camera
  • The camera cannot detect the remote, or fails to connect to it automatically after waking up
Solution
  1. Ensure the remote and camera are within the effective range: Up to 10m (33ft) for Mini Remote; up to 20m (66ft) for GPS Action Remote and GPS Preview Remote.
  2. Ensure the number of cameras connected to the remote does not exceed the limit: 1 camera for Mini Remote; 3 cameras for GPS Action Remote; 4 cameras for GPS Preview Remote.
  3. Move to an open area and retry, keeping away from obstacles or other signal interference sources.
  4. Please ensure the firmware of your camera and remote is both updated to the latest version. Check and complete the update via the Insta360 app.
  • To check the camera firmware: Swipe down from the top of the camera screen to access the Shortcut menu, and tap "Settings" (Gear icon ⚙) > "Camera Info" > "Camera Firmware Version".
  • For instructions on checking and updating the remote firmware version, please refer to: Remote: How to Update Firmware
  1. If none of the above solutions resolves your issue, please back up your important data first, then reset the remote and restore the camera to factory settings.
  • To restore the camera to factory settings: Swipe down from the top of the camera screen to access the Shortcut menu, and tap "Settings" (Gear icon ⚙) > "Factory Reset".
  • To restore the remote to factory settings, please refer to: Remote: Factory Reset
  1. Unbind the remote in the camera settings, then restart the camera and the remote separately before attempting to reconnect.

Steps to unbind the remote: Swipe down from the top of the camera screen to access the Shortcut menu > tap the "Bluetooth Remote" icon > select "Delete".

Scenario 2: Slow connection to camera

Description

The remote can wake up the camera normally, but it takes about 10 seconds to complete the connection for use.

Solution

The reconnection time after the remote wakes up the camera is approximately 10 seconds, and then you can gain control of the camera. This is a normal phenomenon; no additional operations are required, and you can use the device with confidence.

Scenario 3: Failure to connect to phones, tablets or Insta360 app

Description

GPS Preview Remote (with Built-in Mic) or GPS Preview Remote cannot connect to devices such as phones or tablets, or cannot connect to the Insta360 app.

Solution
  1. Ensure the Insta360 app is updated to v1.52.0 or above.
  2. Make sure the remote is not connected to other devices. We recommend turning off the Bluetooth of other devices that have been paired with the remote to avoid connection conflicts.
  3. Restart the remote and the Insta360 app, then try connecting again.
  4. If the issue persists, back up your important data first, then try resetting the remote. Uninstall and reinstall the Insta360 app on your phone, and then attempt to connect again.

Please refer to: Remote: Factory Reset

Scenario 4: Real-time preview failure or lag

Description

Real-time preview failure or lag occurs with the GPS Preview Remote (with Built-in Mic) or the GPS Preview Remote.

Solution
  1. Ensure the remote and camera are within the effective range:
  • GPS Preview Remote: Max distance for control: 20m (66ft); Max distance for preview: 8m (26ft).
  • GPS Preview Remote (with Built-in Mic): Max distance for control: 160m (525ft); Max distance for preview: 100m (328ft).
  1. If the remote experiences real-time preview failure, ensure it is connected to only one camera; the preview page is not available when multiple cameras are connected.
  2. If the remote experiences real-time preview failure, check if the current scenario does not support preview:
  • Modes with preview available when not recording and preview unavailable when recording: Starlapse, Timelapse, TimeShift, Slow Motion, Bullet Time, and Me Mode.
  • To ensure shooting quality, X5 does not support preview at the following shooting specifications for flat videos shot with a single-lens: 1080p@120fps, 1080p@100fps, 8K@30fps, and 8K resolution + AdaptiveTone ON.
  • Scenarios for which preview is always unavailable (whether recording or not): Using the InstaFrame Mode; when the camera is connected to both a remote and a Bluetooth earphone or Bluetooth microphone simultaneously.
  • GPS Preview Remote (with Built-in Mic) does not support preview when in the Audio Mode.
  1. Move to an open environment and retry, keeping away from Wi-Fi, Bluetooth devices and other potential sources of signal interference.
  1. Restart the remote and the Insta360 app, then try connecting again.

Scenario 5: Mini Remote fails to control the camera

Description

Mini Remote is connected to the camera but frequently fails to control it properly.

Solution
  1. Check the remote status: Press and hold the remote button for about 2 seconds to power it on; the indicator light should flash cyan (pairing mode). If the indicator light does not turn on, charge it with a 5V/1A charger for approximately 1.5 hours and try again.
  2. Unbind and re-pair: Go to the "Bluetooth Remote" option on the camera, and select "Delete" to remove the existing connection record. Restart the camera and the remote separately. Search for Insta360 Mini Remote in the Bluetooth list and tap to reconnect.

Please note: When switching between multiple devices, remember to unpair from the previous device first to avoid interference with the new connection.

  1. Ensure the distance between the remote and the camera does not exceed 10m (33ft), and keep away from Wi-Fi, Bluetooth devices and other potential sources of signal interference. If the remote malfunctions only in specific scenarios (e.g., cycling, urban blocks), environmental interference may be the cause; try testing in a different location.

If none of the above solutions resolves your issue, we recommend you apply for Insta360 Repair Service for professional diagnostics.
