X Series: Segmented Recording FAQ

Applicable Models: X3, X4, X4 Air, X5, and X6

Segmented recording is a feature designed to optimize camera storage logic and enhance recording stability. Every 29 minutes and 59 seconds, the camera automatically saves the current segment and continues recording the next segment without interruption. This reduces the risk of file corruption during long recording sessions. This article provides answers to some frequently asked questions about the feature.

1. Will segmented recordings be automatically merged into a single media file?

  • X6, X5, X4 Air, and X4: Yes. When segmented recordings are imported into the Insta360 app or Insta360 Studio, the app/software automatically merges them into a complete video.

Please note: Long media recorded by the camera is saved in segments. When viewing files (either via the U-Disk Mode or directly on the memory card), it will appear as multiple segmented files.

  • X3: No. When segmented recordings are imported into the Insta360 app or Insta360 Studio, they will still be displayed as separate files, each about 29 minutes in length. The app/software cannot merge them automatically.

2. Can segmented recordings be edited individually?

Yes, you can edit any individual segment separately. Please follow these steps:

Insta360 Studio

  1. Connect the camera to your computer using the officially supplied USB cable, and select "USB Mode" or "File Transfer" on the camera when prompted.
  2. Open Insta360 Studio, click "Open Files" > "DCIM" > "Camera01", select the segmented recording you want to edit, and import it manually into Insta360 Studio for individual editing.

Insta360 app

  1. Connect the camera to your computer using the officially supplied USB cable and save the segmented recordings locally to your computer.
  2. Refer to Insta360 App: File Transfer with Computer to transfer your desired video file to the Insta360 app for individual editing.

For a more intuitive operational demonstration, please refer to File Transfer Tutorial.

3. What is the time gap between segmented video files?

  • X6, X5, X4 Air, and X4: The gap between segments is only about 0.3 milliseconds, resulting in virtually seamless playback.
  • X3: The gap between segments is affected by the memory card's read/write speed, typically ranging from 0 to 30 seconds.
