Firmware updates are crucial for enhancing camera performance and refining features. The instructions below detail how to check and update the current firmware version of your camera, helping you complete the update safely and quickly.

How to check the firmware version

Method 1: Check on the camera

Swipe down from the top of the camera screen to access the "Quick Menu" > tap "Settings" (Gear icon ⚙) >"Camera Info" > "Firmware Version".

Method 2: Check via the Insta360 app
  1. Connect your camera to the Insta360 app.

  1. In the Insta360 app, tap "Me" > swipe down to "Device Settings" > check "Device Firmware Info".

How to update the firmware version

Method 1: Via the Insta360 app
  1. Connect your camera to the Insta360 app.

  1. If a new firmware version is available, the Insta360 app will display a notification. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the update.

Please note: If the firmware update via the Insta360 app fails, please make sure that you:

  • Place the camera and phone close to each other (within 6.6ft/2m).
  • Keep the Insta360 app running in the foreground; do not exit or minimize the app.
  • Ensure a stable Internet connection on your phone.
  • Ensure the camera battery level is above 20%.
  • Do not attach or detach the Detachable Touchscreen Remote during the firmware update.

After verifying the above conditions, restart your device and try the firmware update again. Alternatively, you can update the camera firmware using a computer.

Method 2: Via a computer using a USB cable
  1. Power on the camera, connect it to your computer using the officially supplied USB cable, and select the "File Transfer" Mode on the camera screen.
  2. Visit Insta360 Website, and download the latest firmware file for your camera model to your computer. Copy the downloaded file (do not rename it) to the root directory of the camera's storage on the computer.
  3. Disconnect the camera from the computer. The camera will then power off automatically. Turn the camera back on. After a moment, the firmware update starts and the indicator light flashes green.
  4. The camera will restart automatically once the update is complete.

Method 3: Via an SD card using a computer
  1. Visit Insta360 Website and download the latest firmware file for your camera model to the computer. Do not rename the file.
  2. Remove the SD card from your camera, ensure it is formatted as exFAT, insert it into a card reader / USB flash drive, and connect it to your computer.
  3. Save the downloaded firmware file to the root directory of the SD card.
  4. Reinsert the SD card into the camera's card slot and power the camera on.
  5. A firmware update prompt will appear automatically on the camera screen. Follow the steps to complete the update.

Please note: The gimbal, Detachable Touchscreen Remote, and camera firmware will be updated together; they cannot be updated separately.

Does Luna series support downgrading or rolling back device firmware to an older version?

No. To meet security and compliance requirements across different countries and regions, and to help ensure stable system operation and protect your personal information, firmware rollback and downgrade are not supported.
