FAQ

1. What files are generated when the camera records a 360 video at 5.7K or higher?

A video recorded at 5.7K and above uses a high bitrate. Therefore, after recording a 360 video, the camera generates two files:

  • A high-resolution VID video file (contains data from both lenses and serves as the primary storage file).
  • A low-resolution LRV video file (used for playback, preview, AI recognition, and scene analysis).

Please note: Unlike X3 which generates two VID files, X6, X5, X4 Air, and X4 generate only one VID file containing data from both lenses.

2. What is the naming logic for camera files? Why are multiple files generated for a single video on the SD card?

The file naming convention for Insta360 camera files is: Format prefix + shooting date (YYYYMMDD_HHMMSS) + lens direction + master/proxy file + sequence number, i.e., [prefix]_[YYYYMMDD]_[HHMMSS]_[{00,01,10,11}]_[XXX].[suffix].

  • Meaning of lens direction number: 0 represents the lens on the back (away from the screen) facing the external scenery; 1 represents the lens on the screen side (for selfies).
  • Meaning of master/proxy file number: 0 represents the master file; 1 represents the proxy file.

Name examples for files generated by the camera:

360 Mode:

  • VID 360 video file (INSV): VID_YYYYMMDD_HHMMSS_00_Sequence Number, e.g., VID_20240416_213000_00_001.
  • LRV proxy file (LRV): LRV_YYYYMMDD_HHMMSS_01/11_Sequence Number, e.g., LRV_20240416_213000_01_001.
  • IMG 360 photo (JPG, INSP, and DNG): IMG_YYYYMMDD_HHMMSS_00/10_Sequence Number, e.g., IMG_20240416_213000_00_001.

Single-Lens Mode:

  • VID single-lens video file (MP4): VID_YYYYMMDD_HHMMSS_00/10_Sequence Number, e.g., VID_20240416_213000_00_001.

Please note: The file name prefix for FreeFrame videos is PRO_VID.

  • IMG single-lens photo file (INSP/DNG): IMG_YYYYMMDD_HHMMSS_00/10_Sequence Number, e.g., IMG_20240416_213000_00_001.

3. Can 360 photos taken in the HDR Mode be exported as .hdr or .exr files? (For 3D software rendering and CGI production)

X Series cameras currently do not support exporting 360 photo files in .hdr or .exr format.
