FAQ

1. Do other 360 camera models besides X6 support AI Director?
  • X5: This feature is currently in development and adaptation. It is planned to be optimized and released in a future version. Please stay tuned for official firmware updates.
  • X4 Air, X4, X3, X2, ONE X: AI Director is not currently supported. We will continue optimizing our products to provide you with a better experience. Thank you for your understanding and support!

2. Is the upgraded "AI Highlight Assistant" the same as the new AI Director?

The original "AI Highlight Assistant" has now been upgraded and renamed "AI Director." The footage selection logic and Insta360 app one-tap editing capabilities have been fully upgraded. After enabling "AI Director," the camera will automatically select highlight shots from recent footage while charging with the camera powered off, intelligently complete editing, and generate a dedicated daily Vlog. Once charging is complete, open the Insta360 app to view the finished video directly.

3. Is AI Director free?

Absolutely free. AI Director is a built-in feature of the X6 camera. Insta360 hopes to use AI technology to help you solve editing hassles so you can easily record and share exciting moments without any charge.

4. Why is AI Director enabled by default? How do I turn it off?

AI Director is enabled by default so that when your device is charging, it can automatically identify highlight clips in your footage and intelligently edit them. This lets you open the Insta360 app and view and export the finished video directly, making it easy and time-saving to share daily Vlogs.

If you do not need it for now, you can turn it off manually: swipe down from the top of the camera screen to open the "Quick Menu" > swipe left to find the AI Director icon, then tap to turn it off.

5. Does AI Director pose a privacy leak risk? Will it upload personal data to the cloud?

Please rest assured that AI Director will not compromise your privacy. When a new device is turned on for the first time, the system will prompt that this feature will be enabled and show you where to turn it off.

All highlight recognition and frame composition analysis performed by AI Director are completed offline on the camera itself or in the local Insta360 app on your phone, without relying on cloud processing. After analysis, only a script file will be generated, and you will need the Insta360 app to view it. Your original footage, audio, and biometric data such as faces will not be uploaded to the cloud. We strictly safeguard your content and privacy.

This feature is enabled by default to help you organize, view, and share daily Vlogs more efficiently. If you do not need it for now, you can also turn it off manually: swipe down from the top of the camera screen to open the "Quick Menu" > swipe left to find the AI Director icon, then tap to turn it off.

6. Why is the AI Director icon turned off/greyed out?

If you find that the AI Director switch is greyed out and cannot be tapped, it is usually because the current shooting mode or mode does not support this feature. We recommend switching to another supported shooting mode or mode and trying again.

7. After charging reaches 80%, which takes priority: cloud backup or AI Director editing?

Cloud backup takes priority. As long as the device meets the cloud upload conditions (the camera is charging and connected to Wi-Fi), the system will prioritize uploading cloud files to ensure your original footage is safely backed up first. After the cloud footage upload is complete, the system will then perform the local AI Director editing task.

8. Will enabling the "Auto Delete" feature in cloud backup affect the use of AI Director?

Yes, it will. The intelligent recognition and automatic editing of AI Director must be based on the original footage stored locally on the camera. If "Auto Delete" is enabled, footage will be automatically removed from local storage after cloud backup is completed, causing AI Director to stop working properly due to lack of footage. If you need to use "AI Director," please turn off "Auto Delete" in the cloud service backup settings to ensure local footage remains intact and the editing process runs smoothly.

9. Will videos generated by AI Director take up SD card or camera memory?

Please rest assured that videos generated by AI Director will basically not take up SD card or camera memory. Details are as follows:

  • Footage analysis stage: AI Director only performs footage analysis locally on the camera. It generates only a very small analysis log file, which takes up almost no SD card or camera storage space.
  • Finished video synthesis stage: The final video from AI Director is synthesized and exported in the Insta360 app. The generated video file only takes up cache space in the phone app and will not be saved to the camera.

10. If the camera is powered off or stops charging midway while using AI Director to analyze footage, will it interrupt the generation progress and require starting over?

No, it will not need to start over. When the camera is powered off or stops charging midway, the AI Director footage analysis task will be temporarily interrupted, and the system will automatically retain the analysis progress that has already been completed. When the camera meets the task requirements again, AI Director will resume analysis from where it left off. Although this feature supports breakpoint-resume analysis, if you want to complete highlight selection as quickly as possible, we recommend keeping the camera charging after shooting ends and disconnecting power only after the analysis task is complete.

11. Why can't AI Director generate a finished video on the camera? / Why does AI Director on the X6 keep failing to generate a finished video on the camera?

On-camera AI Director automatic video generation requires both the footage shooting requirements and trigger conditions to be met. You can refer to the following methods to resolve this:

  • Check whether the footage meets the requirements:
    • Footage scope: only supports video footage shot on the Insta360 X6 within the most recent 30 days (photos not supported)
    • Footage duration: each clip must be longer than 1 minute
    • Supported footage shooting modes only include the following:
      • 360: Video Mode / PureVideo / TimeShift / Timelapse
      • Flat: Video Mode / PureVideo / Gimbal Mode 2.0
    • Footage color mode: We recommend footage shot in "Standard Color" or "Vivid" color mode (I-Log footage is not currently supported)
  • Check the trigger conditions:After shooting ends, please power off the camera and connect it to power. The camera will automatically start onboard AI analysis and edit the footage into a finished video during idle charging time.

If the above solutions still do not resolve your issue, please contact Insta360 official customer support for further help.
