X Series: Camera Firmware Update Failure

Applicable Models: ONE X, X2, X3, X4, X4 Air, and X5

Scenario 1: Firmware update failure via the Insta360 app

Please first check if your Insta360 app is updated to the latest version. If not, update it to the latest version. Then, choose the corresponding solution to resolve your issue based on the specific situation:

Firmware download failure

During the firmware download, ensure your phone is connected to the Internet. Please enter the "Home" page in the Insta360 app. If videos on the page load normally, your current network is working correctly; if they fail to load, there may be a network issue.

  • If the network is normal: Please try restarting the camera and the Insta360 app, then reconnect the camera and app to try the firmware update again. If the download still fails after multiple attempts, we recommend updating the firmware via a computer.

  • If the network is abnormal: Please try switching to another network, such as mobile data or a different Wi-Fi.

Please note: If you are using an Android device, please enable the Proxy Mode in the Insta360 app before updating the firmware. Path: Insta360 app > Settings > enable the Proxy Mode when connecting to the camera.

Firmware installation failure (Camera stuck on the update page / frozen)
  1. Try to force restart the camera or remove and reinsert the battery before restarting to check if the camera can enter the update state.
  2. If it cannot enter the update state, please try reconnecting the camera to the Insta360 app to see if the update process starts.
  3. If the above steps fail to resolve the issue, we recommend updating the firmware via a computer.

Scenario 2: Firmware update failure via PC / memory card

If the camera does not start the update normally or fails to update after transferring the firmware file via PC, try the following steps:

  1. Check for the firmware file location: Ensure the firmware file downloaded is placed in the root directory of the memory card.
  2. Verify the filename: Ensure the file name retains its original format without modification (e.g., Insta360X3FW.bin). A file name like Insta360X3FW(1).bin is incorrect.
  3. Check the camera battery level: Ensure the battery level is above 30%.

If the update still fails despite meeting all the above conditions, please repeat the update process a few times. If it still fails, back up the data on your memory card, format the card, and then try the firmware update again.

Scenario 3: The camera won't turn on after the firmware update is complete

If your camera fails to turn on or does not respond after the update, we recommend you apply for Insta360 Repair Service for professional diagnostics.

Scenario 4: X4 Air freezes or becomes unresponsive after activation and firmware update

Description

After activation and firmware update of X4 Air, the camera screen goes black, with the indicator light glowing magenta or purple.

Scenario 5: Extremely slow firmware transfer speed when updating firmware of X4 Air with Redmi K70 Ultra

We recommend turning off and then turning on your phone's Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, restarting the Insta360 app, and attempting the update again.

Scenario 6: The firmware update process of X3 is complete, but the firmware is not actually updated

Description

When you perform a firmware update for X3 via the Insta360 app or using a memory card, the entire process proceeds without errors and indicates completion, but the camera's firmware is not updated and its version remains unchanged.
