Format Memory Card / Low-Level Format

Q1 How do I format my memory card/microSD card?

We recommend regularly transferring camera files to your phone or computer for backup and formatting your camera memory card to prevent anomalies.

Here’s how to format your memory card using the X5 or Insta360 app:

  • Using the X5 Camera:
    • Insert the memory card into X5.
    • Press the power button to turn it on.
    • Swipe down from the top of the screen to access the quick menu, tap on "⚙" then tap "SD Card," and select "Format" to format the memory card.
  • Using the Insta360 app:
    • Insert the memory card into the camera and connect it to the Insta360 app.
    • Go to the settings tab, select "Other Settings" > "Camera Storage" > "Format Storage" to format the memory card.

Note: If you're formatting an SD card by computer, make sure to use exFAT format. The allocation unit size should be set to default.

Q2 What is Low-Level Format?

Low-Level Formatting completely erases all data on the memory card and can improve its performance to some extent. To avoid interruptions during shooting or recording, check the speed class and health of the memory card and replace it with a high-spec card if necessary.

Q3 How do I perform a Low-Level Format?

  • First, back up all files on the memory card.
  • On the camera, swipe down to open the quick menu page, tap "⚙" > "SD Card" > "Format" > "Low-Level Format" to perform a Low-Level Format of the memory card.
