X Series: FlowState Stabilization and Horizon Lock

Applicable Models: X2, X3, X4, X4 Air, and X5

The Stabilization feature effectively reduces shakiness during video recording, resulting in smoother and more stable image. The Horizon Lock feature keeps the image level at all times, helping you easily enhance your shooting quality.

How to enable FlowState Stabilization

  • In-camera stabilization: FlowState Stabilization is enabled by default. The stabilization effect is visible in real-time during shooting preview. This feature cannot be manually disabled.
  • Post-production stabilization: You need to import your media into the Insta360 app or Insta360 Studio for post-production editing. You can choose to enable or disable FlowState Stabilization during export.

How to enable or disable Horizon Lock (for X5, X4, and X4 Air)

In the 360 Mode, Horizon Lock is enabled by default for all photo and video modes. You can enable or disable this feature in-camera or during post-production according to your needs as follows:

For photo modes

Horizon Lock in photo modes can only be adjusted during post-production editing. You can enable or disable "Automatic horizon leveling" in the Insta360 app or Insta360 Studio.

Open the Insta360 app or Insta360 Studio > enter the editing page > enable or disable "Automatic horizon leveling" under Stabilization Type

For video modes

Among all video modes, only the FreeFrame Video Mode provides an in-camera toggle for "Horizon Lock". In other video modes, the FlowState Stabilization and Horizon Lock features share the same toggle, "FlowState Stabilization", and cannot be controlled independently.

  • Setting on camera: Swipe up from the bottom of the camera screen to access the Settings page > navigate to the "Horizon Lock" toggle and adjust it as needed.

  • Setting in Insta360 app: Go to the Player page > tap the "Settings" icon in the top left corner > tap "Basic" > enable "FlowState Stabilization" (see Fig. 1).
  • Setting in Insta360 Studio: In the right-side menu bar > click "Stabilization Type" > enable "FlowState Stabilization" (see Fig. 2).

How to enable Tilt Recovery (for X5 only)

The Tilt Recovery feature is used to preserve the natural tilt effect from the shooting perspective. When enabled, the media retains the original tilt from shooting, making it ideal for cycling/motorcycle scenes and enhancing immersion.

How to Enable: Import a video into Insta360 Studio and in the right-side menu bar > click "Stabilization Type" > enable "FlowState Stabilization" > Check the "Tilt Recovery" box.

Please note: The Tilt Recovery feature can only be set in Insta360 Studio. To use it, please import your videos into Insta360 Studio.
