Insta360 Studio: Lag

Insta360 Studio: Lag

Applicable Models: ONE X, X2, X3, X4, X4 Air, X5, Ace, Ace Pro, Ace Pro 2, GO 3, GO 3S, and GO Ultra

Description

Lag may occur while using Insta360 Studio for playing back and editing media or performing other operations.

Solution

Step 1: Check computer compatibility

Please verify that your computer meets the compatibility requirements. If not, consider using another computer or using the Insta360 app instead for your operations.

Please refer to: Insta360 Studio: Compatibility & System Requirements

Step 2: Update Insta360 Studio to the latest version

Please refer to: Insta360 Studio: Download and Installation

Step 3: Update your computer's graphics card driver to the latest version

Outdated graphics card drivers may lead to abnormal editing performance. You can follow the steps below based on your computer's operating system (Mac/Windows):

Mac

Graphics card drivers on Apple devices are typically updated along with macOS updates:

  1. Click the Apple icon in the top left corner of the screen and select "System Settings" or "System Preferences".
  2. Click "Software Update", and the system will automatically check for available updates.
  3. If applicable updates are available, click "Update Now". After completion, the graphics card driver will be updated simultaneously.

Please note: For devices like Mac Pro that support discrete graphics cards, the graphics card driver is usually installed automatically with macOS updates.

Windows

Graphics card drivers can be updated automatically via "Device Manager", or you can manually download updates from the graphics card manufacturer's website:

  1. Update via Device Manager

    a. Right-click the "Start" button in the bottom left corner of the desktop and select "Device Manager".

    b. Expand "Display adapters", right-click the name of the graphics card currently in use, and select "Update driver".

    c. Select "Search automatically for drivers", and the system will automatically find and install the latest driver.

  2. Some graphics cards need to be updated via the manufacturer's website: Visit the graphics card manufacturer's website, search for and download the latest driver based on your graphics card model.

Please note: The latest driver for AMD 6000 series graphics cards has a conflict with Insta360 Studio. When running Insta360 Studio, the graphics card's frequency will be restricted, leading to performance degradation. If you are using this series of graphics cards, please follow the steps below to roll back to an older version of the driver:

  1. Download the installation package for the older version of the driver.
  2. Extract the downloaded file, locate and open "Setup.exe" to install the driver.
  3. After the installation is complete, restart your computer and open Insta360 Studio to check if the lagging is resolved.

Step 4: Disable the low-performance graphics card

If you are using a computer with multiple graphics cards, please try disabling the lower-performance graphics card. Here are the steps to disable a graphics card:

Mac

Mac devices typically do not allow manual disabling of graphics cards, especially models with automatic graphics switching (such as the MacBook Pro with both discrete and integrated graphics cards). However, you can change the graphics card switching behavior through system settings:

  1. Click the Apple icon in the top left corner and select "System Settings" or "System Preferences".
  2. Select "Battery" or "Energy Saver".
  3. In the "Battery" options, find "Automatic graphics switching" and uncheck it. This will disable the automatic graphics switching feature, forcing the system to use the discrete graphics card.
  4. Restart your computer to ensure the changes take effect.

Windows

  1. Open Device Manager.
  2. Expand the "Display adapters" option; you will see two cards listed: the integrated graphics card (e.g., Intel HD Graphics) and the discrete graphics card (e.g., NVIDIA or AMD).
  3. Right-click the integrated graphics card you want to disable (e.g., Intel HD Graphics) and select "Disable device".
  4. Restart your computer to ensure the changes take effect.

Step 5: Change Insta360 Studio's preferences
  1. In Insta360 Studio, click "Menu" > "Settings" > "Preferences" > "Codecs".
  2. Under "Player Codec", check "Use Hardware Decoder" and "Automatically apply hardware detection results to set codec settings".
  3. Click "Hardware Acceleration" and select "Auto".
  4. If you are using the Project page, click "Performance" on the "New Project" page and select "Low-resolution proxy".
  5. Uncheck "Ultra HD Preview".

Step 6: Confirm original media storage location

If the above methods fail to resolve the issue, it is recommended to store the video files on your computer's local hard drive and then import them into Insta360 Studio.

  • Local computer drives: Drive C and Drive D.
  • External hard drives: Drive E, Drive F, and Drive G.

Step 7: Disable Stitching Optimization and Media Processing

Insta360 Studio has certain performance requirements for your device, and using some algorithm-based effects can consume a large amount of system resources, which may lead to slow and lagging performance. It is recommended to reduce the application of algorithm-based effects, such as disabling Stitching Optimization or Media Processing.
