Insta360 Studio: Clip Management

Applicable Models: ONE X, X2, X3, X4, X4 Air, X5, Ace, Ace Pro, Ace Pro 2, GO 3, GO 3S, and GO Ultra

The Clip Management feature in Insta360 Studio allows you to create multiple editing schemes for the same piece of 360 media and store them separately. This article details how to create, copy, and delete clips and provides some FAQ answers regarding file migration, searching, and extension differences.

What is a clip?

A clip can be interpreted as an editing draft or project file. Each clip independently records a set of editing data for the corresponding media, including all editing operations such as framing, keyframe setting, speed adjustment, and stitching.

How to manage clips to achieve multiple editing effects

For the same piece of 360 media, you can create multiple clips to save different framing options and editing parameters. This allows you to export files with various framing options applied without deleting original data.

Scenario 1: Open a clip

Click the "Clip Management" icon on the right panel, and a clip will be generated by default. All your editing operations, such as speed adjustment, stitching, keyframe setting, and deep tracking, will be recorded in real time in the current clip.

Scenario 2: Add a new clip

The new clip will use the default parameter settings. You can adjust framing and editing parameters based on these settings to achieve different effects.

Scenario 3: Copy a clip

The copied clip will inherit all editing data from the original clip for your modification as needed, saving time on repetitive editing.

Scenario 4: Delete a clip

The system will always retain at least one clip and will not allow deletion of all clips.

FAQ

1. If I need to package and send the original media and its project files to another computer, how do I ensure the previous editing data can be viewed normally?

On the Project page

  • Ensure that the storage locations of the project files and media, as well as the user name on the new computer, are consistent with those on the original computer.
  • Arbitrary renaming of project files is not allowed.

On the Media page

  • After copying the project files to the new computer, ensure that you use the exact same media as used in the original editing to automatically match the previous editing data.
  • Arbitrary renaming of project files is not allowed.

2. Will previous project files be lost after reinstalling or updating Insta360 Studio?

No. If you cannot find your previous project files, you can locate them through the following two methods:

  • Method 1: Via the following path

Open Insta360 Studio, navigate to "Preferences" > "File Path Settings" > "Project Files Save Path", and follow the path to view your project files.

  • Method 2: Via software

Download the search tool "Everything" and perform a global search using the keyword "insprj" (refer to the image below for expected results).

Please note: If you have previously modified the default storage path for project files and can no longer find the original path, it is recommended to use Method 2 first.

3. What are the differences between the file extensions ".insprj", ".json", and ".insproj" for project files?

These three types of files mainly differ in the content they store:

  • .insprj file: A project file generated when you edit media on the Media page in Insta360 Studio, recording all editing data on that page.
  • .json file: Primarily used to store media libraries or default configuration parameters of a project.
  • .insproj file: A project file generated when you create a project on the Project page in Insta360 Studio.

4. How to create different editing effects for the same original media and store them separately?

This can be achieved by simply adding new clips. You can edit the same media in different ways in each clip, and the editing effects will be stored separately in each clip.
