X Series: Camera Heat Dissipation Recommendations
Applicable Models: ONE X, X2, X3, X4, X4 Air, X5, and X6
Electronic devices generate heat during operation due to power consumption. To ensure an optimal experience with your camera, you can follow the tips below to reduce power consumption or assist with heat dissipation.
Choose a suitable shooting environment
The shooting environment affects the camera's heat dissipation. Well‑ventilated, moderate‑temperature environments can reduce the risk of overheating. Please refer to the following recommendations when choosing a shooting environment:
- It is recommended to shoot in well-ventilated environments or while moving.
- Please try to avoid allowing the camera to operate continuously in high-temperature, windless environments or under direct sunlight for prolonged periods.
- When shooting on the water or near water (e.g., at the beach), please be especially cautious. Wearing a dive case seals the camera and blocks airflow, making it prone to rapid overheating and triggering overheat protection when exposed to direct sunlight. For extended shooting on the water, we recommend removing the dive case.
Optimize camera settings
Shooting modes, resolution, frame rate, and other features affect the camera's workload. You can refer to the following parameter settings to reduce power consumption and alleviate heating:
- Prioritize modes with lower power consumption, such as the Video Mode.
- Appropriately lowering the resolution and frame rate can help reduce heat generation, striking a good balance between image quality and power consumption.
- Turn off some features when they are not needed, such as “AI Highlights Assistant” / “AI Director”, and appropriately reduce screen brightness to minimize unnecessary power consumption.
- It is recommended to enable "Screen Auto Sleep" during recording (Note: this operation is not supported on ONE X) to reduce the screen's power consumption.
- During high-load tasks such as 8K video recording or live streaming, take periodic breaks to allow the camera to cool down.
Properly use the camera
You can refer to the following guidelines to reduce device load, avoid abnormal temperature rises, and extend the camera's lifespan:
- Try to avoid recording while charging to reduce the combined load on the battery and circuitry.
- Turn off the screen promptly when the camera is on standby.
- For some models, when used in high-temperature outdoor environments, a Cooling Screen Protector can be used to help mitigate the effects of ambient heat.
- For some models, using a Thermo Grip Cover can also effectively assist with heat dissipation during handheld use.
Use scientific cooling methods
When the camera heats up, use scientific cooling methods, avoid improper operations, and distinguish between normal heat generation and abnormalities.
- Although the camera is waterproof, placing a hot device in water can cause moisture ingress and component damage due to the sudden temperature difference. Therefore, we do not recommend placing the camera in water to cool it down.
- For mild heating, you can power off the camera, remove the battery, and place it in a cool, well‑ventilated place to cool down naturally.
- If the camera is severely hot and needs rapid cooling, we recommend powering it off and placing it near an air conditioning vent (at a safe distance) for cold‑air cooling. Do not place it too close to the vent to avoid temperature‑shock damage.
Please note: The camera features an overheat protection mechanism. When the camera triggers overheat protection and stops recording, it will automatically save the current media. No media will be lost, and the device can be used again once it has cooled down.
