Enabling the Smart Tracking feature allows stable tracking of people, pets, and various objects, suitable for diverse shooting scenarios and significantly improving the coherence of dynamic images and final media quality. The following describes how to use this feature.

How to enable Smart Tracking

You can enable Smart Tracking in three ways:

Method 1: Press the joystick

Frame the subject to track on the shooting page, then single-press the joystick to enable Single-Person Tracking, or long-press the joystick to enable Multi-Person Tracking.

Method 2: Double-tap the screen

On the shooting page, double-tap the subject (person, pet, etc.) you want to track.

Method 3: Draw a box / tap to select

Tap the Tracking icon on the left side of the shooting page to enter the tracking control page, then tap the detection box or draw a box around any subject you want to track. For multi-person tracking, you need to draw a box around multiple heads for it to take effect.

Method 4: Draw a box to select in the Insta360 app

Connect the app, go to the shooting page, and draw a box on the frame to select the subject to enable Single-Person Tracking or Multi-Person Tracking.

1. Does Insta360 Luna Ultra support "Multi-Person Tracking"?

Yes, up to 8 persons can be tracked.

2. Which shooting modes/features are supported for Smart Tracking?

Supported modes: Photo, Video, PureVideo, Slow-Mo (Slow Motion), Live Photo, and TimeShift.

Unsupported modes: Timelapse, Pano, 360° Pan Shot, Spin Shot, and Dolly Zoom.

3. Does the camera support tracking animals or objects?

Yes, tracking animals and objects is supported with better results for common pets like cats and dogs.

4. What is the maximum tracking distance for Smart Tracking?

The maximum tracking distance depends on the shooting focal length and the size of the tracked object. For the best tracking performance, we recommend keeping the subject occupying more than 1/10 of the frame.

5. Is free composition supported during tracking?

Yes, you can tap on a rule-of-thirds grid point or freely adjust the joystick to compose the shot.

6. How to enable the telephoto tracking feature?

It is enabled by default when you use the telephoto lens; no manual action is required.

7. Is zoom following supported? If so, what is the maximum zoom ratio?

Zoom following is supported across the entire focal range, with a maximum zoom ratio of 12x.

8. Does Insta360 Luna Ultra support the Hoop Mode?

Currently, this mode is not supported.
