Luna Ultra: Internal Storage and Memory Card Related FAQ

Applicable Models: Luna Ultra

This article compiles FAQ regarding the camera's internal storage and memory card usage, helping you better plan storage space, choose compatible accessories, and manage your shooting and media with confidence.

1. How much storage space does a single photo use?

The storage space used by a photo varies with resolution:

  • Shooting in "Standard" resolution: About 2.5MB per photo.
  • Shooting in "Ultra HD" resolution: About 9.5MB per photo.

2. Where are the captured media saved?

Insta360 Luna Ultra supports two storage methods: Internal Storage and SD Card Storage.

  • If you set the storage path to "Internal Storage", your captured media will be saved to the camera's internal storage space.
  • If you select "SD Card Storage", your captured media will be saved to the SD card.

3. What types of memory cards does Insta360 Luna Ultra support? What is the maximum memory card capacity it supports?

To ensure good shooting performance and avoid recording interruptions, we recommend using a Micro SD / TF card that is UHS-I, V30 speed class or higher, and formatted as exFAT. Using a card that does not meet these specifications may cause recording interruptions or file corruption due to insufficient read/write speed.

Please note: Do not use memory cards of UHS-II or UHS-III specification, or cards with a capacity exceeding 1TB. Such cards may have compatibility issues with the camera and may cause recording to stop.

The following compatible memory cards are recommended:

  • Insta360 microSD V30 A1
  • SanDisk Extreme V30 A1
  • SanDisk Extreme Pro V30 A1
  • SanDisk Extreme V30 A2
  • SanDisk Extreme Pro V30 A2
  • Lexar Professional 1066x microSD UHS-I SILVER Series
  • Kingston Canvas Go! Plus microSD Series
  • Samsung PRO Plus microSD Series

4. How long can the camera record video without a memory card?

Insta360 Luna Ultra has 47GB of internal storage. Estimated recording times when no memory card is inserted are provided below:

  • In 4K@60fps mode: About 104 minutes.
  • In 8K@30fps mode: About 35 minutes.

Please note: The above data is for reference only. Actual recording time may vary slightly depending on shooting conditions.

5. Will the camera automatically save the media being recorded when it powers off due to low battery?

Yes. When the camera automatically powers off due to low battery, it will automatically save the media being recorded to avoid data loss.

6. When the memory card is nearly full but the camera is still recording, will the file be saved automatically?

Yes. Files recorded continuously before the memory card runs out of space will be saved automatically.

7. Can the camera connect directly to an external hard drive?

Currently, it is not supported.

8. After switching from "SD Card Storage" to "Internal Storage", why can't I see the media stored on the SD card?

The in-camera preview will only display media within the currently selected storage space (internal storage or SD card storage). You can connect the camera to the Insta360 app to view all media from both internal storage and the SD card.
