GO Series: Flare, Glare, or Halos in Images

Applicable Models: GO 3, GO 3S, and GO Ultra

Scenario 1: Flare appears in daytime or outdoor shots

Solution

This phenomenon is a normal optical reaction. You can try the following methods to reduce it:

  • Adjust shooting angle/position: Change your standing position or rotate the camera to avoid pointing the lens directly at intense light sources.
  • Block light: Use your hand or another object to partially block the strong light from hitting the lens directly.
  • Optimize exposure settings: Use the Auto Exposure mode, or in the Manual Exposure mode, appropriately increase the shutter speed or lower the ISO value (lower values can make the image darker and reduce bright spots).
  • Use an ND filter: If you have an ND filter accessory, attach it to the lens. It can effectively reduce the amount of light entering the lens, helping to mitigate flare.

Scenario 2: Ghosting/reflective flare appears when shooting towards a light source underwater with a Dive Case

Reason

This is caused by the reflection of light in water and internal reflections between the Dive Case and the camera lens elements. This ghosting or flare can be more noticeable at certain shooting angles or when facing strong point light sources and this is a normal optical phenomenon.

Solution

It is recommended to avoid direct light sources. When shooting underwater, try to choose environments with soft light and avoid conditions with strong or direct light sources to minimize reflections between the lens elements.
