GO Series: Black Bars, Flickering Effect, or Moiré Patterns in Footage

GO Series: Black Bars, Flickering Effect, or Moiré Patterns in Footage

Applicable Models: GO 3, GO 3S, and GO Ultra

Scenario 1: Flicker or black bars on screens or light sources

  • Black bars appear when recording displays.

Solution

When the camera has "Low Light Stabilization" or "Jitter Blur Reduction" enabled, it automatically increases the shutter speed to reduce motion blur, and the Anti-Flicker feature is disabled as a result. Since the shutter speed is inconsistent with the refresh rate of TVs, computers, or other LED light sources, flicker may appear in the footage.

For non-nighttime motion scene shooting

  1. Disable the "Low Light Stabilization" or "Jitter Blur Reduction" feature.
  2. Adjust the "Anti-Flicker" setting according to the ambient light frequency: Swipe down from the top of the screen to access the Shortcut menu > tap "Settings" > find "Anti-Flicker" and select the frequency based on your region:
    • 50Hz for most of Europe, Asia, Africa, and Australia
    • 60Hz for the USA, Canada, Japan, South Korea, the Philippines, etc.

For nighttime motion scene shooting

For shooting of nighttime motion scenes, it is recommended to enable the "Low Light Stabilization" or "Jitter Blur Reduction" feature, and adjust the frame rate or shutter speed according to the ambient light frequency:

  • 50Hz (Most of Europe, Asia, Africa, and Australia): Set the frame rate to 25fps, 50fps, or 100fps.
  • 60Hz (the USA, Canada, Japan, South Korea, the Philippines, etc.): Set the frame rate to 30fps, 60fps, or 120fps.

Scenario 2: Banded shadows in footage (horizontal/vertical dark stripes)

Solution

As the top and bottom of the camera sensor are exposed at slightly different times, the brightness/color at the top and bottom of the frame can vary. When the ambient light source is a high-frequency flickering LED, or when the camera's photo-sensing process is relatively slow, changes in the brightness of the footage may appear as banded shadows.

You can adjust the camera's frame rate setting based on your local AC power frequency:

  • 50Hz (Most of Europe, Asia, Africa, and Australia): Set the frame rate to 30fps, 60fps, or 120fps.
  • 60Hz (the USA, Canada, Japan, South Korea, the Philippines, etc.): Set the frame rate to 25fps, 50fps, or 100fps.

Scenario 3: Moiré patterns appear in the footage

When shooting objects or buildings with horizontal or vertical stripe patterns, irregular, wavy colored moiré patterns or stripes may appear in the photo or video. This is an optical phenomenon, not a device defect. Moiré patterns may occur when the camera captures objects with dense stripe patterns. These patterns can interfere with the camera's sensor, resulting in the moiré effect.

You can try the following two methods to solve this issue:

  • Increase shutter speed: Swipe left from the right edge of the touchscreen, select the "Shutter" icon in the menu bar, and slide to adjust it.
  • Reduce image sharpness: Swipe left from the right edge of the touchscreen. Select "Sharpness" (triangle icon) in the menu bar and adjust it.
