Flow Series: Charging & Battery Life

Applicable Models: Flow, Flow Pro, Flow 2, and Flow 2 Pro

To meet your needs for gimbal power, below is a detailed overview of battery display rules, handling for low-battery situations, charging-related information, and troubleshooting for each model—helping you manage power efficiently.

Instructions

I. Charging operations
  1. Gimbal charging
    1. Prepare the device: Use the original Type-C data cable included in the package and a compatible charger.
    2. Connect to the connector: Connect one end of the Type-C cable to the "IN" port on the gimbal handle, and the other end to the charger.
    3. Check status: During charging, the indicator lights will cycle on sequentially based on battery level. All lights on indicate full charge.

Please note: Charge the gimbal with a 5V 2A power adapter.

  1. Use the gimbal as the power supply of the phone
    1. Confirm interface: The "OUT" port on the side of the gimbal's roll axis motor is the power supply port (see image below).
    2. Connect devices: Use a Type-C data cable to connect the "OUT" port to your phone.
    3. Start power supply:
    • Power-off state: After connection, press the Power button / M button once to charge the phone.
    • Power-on state: Charging starts automatically after connection—no additional operation needed.

II. Battery level check

Method 1: Check via gimbal indicator lights

Flow and Flow Pro

Press the Power button once; the indicator lights will stay on for three seconds to show the current battery level:

  • 1 light on: Battery level < 25%
  • 2 lights on: Battery level 25%-49%
  • 3 lights on: Battery level 50%-74%
  • 4 lights on: Battery level 75%-100%

Method 2: Check via the Insta360 app

With connection to the Insta360 app, the remaining battery level is visible in the upper left corner of the shooting page.

III. Handling for low-battery situations
  • Low-battery alert: When the gimbal's battery is low, the Insta360 app will send a notification. You can also estimate the battery level via the gimbal's indicator lights.
  • Response to low-battery status: If the gimbal stops recording automatically due to low battery, the captured footage will be saved automatically.

IV. Battery life related notes
  1. Standby time when fully charged & powered off: A fully charged gimbal can be stored powered off for over one year.
  2. Balance impact on battery life: For optimal battery life, align the phone clamp with the center of the phone during installation. Ensure the stretch distance on both sides of the clamp is equal and the phone is tightly attached.

FAQ

1. Can the gimbal charge my phone? How to use it as a power bank?

Yes, the gimbal can be used as a power bank to charge your phone. Use a phone charging cable to connect your phone to the USB-C power supply port on the gimbal's arm (not the handle). Follow these steps:

  • Power-on state: Charging starts automatically after connection.
    • If the gimbal's battery level > 30%: The gimbal can charge the phone continuously.
    • If the gimbal's battery level ≤ 30%: Power supply to the phone stops (external fill lights can still be used).
  • Power-off state: Press the Power button after connection to start charging. This mode is not limited by the gimbal's remaining battery and the gimbal will continue charging the phone until the gimbal's power is exhausted.

2. Does the gimbal support charging (the phone) while being charged by a power bank or other power source?

Yes. When the gimbal is charging a phone, its own battery level must be > 30%.

3. How fast does the gimbal consume power when charging a phone?

Generally, charging a phone for 10 minutes consumes approximately 20%-30% of the gimbal's battery.

4. What are the requirements for the charger when charging the gimbal?
  • No charger is included in the standard package. It is recommended to use the supplied USB charging cable together with a 10W (5V/2A) charger.
  • Charging is supported via the included A to Type-C cable, as well as a Type-C to Type-C cable.
  • If using a power bank, please ensure its output power meets the requirements.

Please note:

  • The Type-C port is used for charging on the gimbal handle.
  • When using the gimbal to charge your phone, an overly long data cable may interfere with the gimbal’s rotation or cause center-of-gravity shift of the phone during shooting. To ensure a good shooting experience, it is recommended to charge the phone when the gimbal is not in use.
