Flow Series: Smartphone Remote Control
Flow Series: Smartphone Remote Control
Applicable Models: Flow 2 and Flow 2 Pro
The Smartphone Remote Control feature allows you to remotely control gimbal shooting via a second smartphone. No need to install the Insta360 app — simply scan the QR code for real-time preview and control. It breaks distance limits, making it ideal for selfies, group photos, and multi-angle creative shooting.
Instructions
- Connect the gimbal to the Insta360 app and enter the shooting interface.
- Tap the Smartphone Remote Control icon on the right to generate a QR code.
- Use another smartphone to scan the QR code to complete the connection:
- After a successful connection, the second phone will display the preview and operation interface.
- Tap the top of the screen to adjust framing, start video recording, and perform other operations.

Please note:
- Both phones need to stay connected to the Internet (mobile data, hotspot, or Wi-Fi are all acceptable — no need to connect to the same network). It is recommended to use the feature in an area with good signal.
- Some device models have compatibility restrictions. For details, refer to the Insta360 Flow 2 Pro / Flow 2 Phone & Apps Compatibility List.
FAQ
1. Does the Smartphone Remote Control feature require the second phone to download the Insta360 app?
No. You can scan the QR code with any QR code scanning software.
2. What is the maximum distance supported by the Smartphone Remote Control feature?
There is no distance limit.
3. Does the Smartphone Remote Control feature support cross-connection between iOS and Android devices?
Yes. It is not restricted by smartphone brand or operating system.
4. How many smartphones can be used to remotely control the gimbal via Smartphone Remote Control?
Currently, only one smartphone is supported for remote control.
5. Why is the image quality displayed on the second smartphone low when using the Smartphone Remote Control feature?
High-quality image transmission consumes a lot of bandwidth, which can cause operation delays. To reduce latency and improve control fluency, the system has optimized transmission settings — lowering image quality to minimize delays.
6. Why does the Smartphone Remote Control feature only allow photo playback and not video playback?
Video playback requires a large bandwidth, which may result in insufficient fluency and clarity. To ensure stable control, only photo playback is supported currently.
7. What if the Smartphone Remote Control feature cannot be used after scanning the QR code with some browsers?
Some browsers have limitations in protocol compatibility, which temporarily prevent them from supporting the Remote Control feature. We recommend using applications like Safari or Chrome to scan the code, and the system will automatically redirect to a compatible browser.
8. What if the tablet displays "Please lock the screen" and preview is unavailable?
- Swipe down from the top of the tablet to open the Control Center, then tap the screen rotation lock icon (Lock icon).
- Switch the tablet to the portrait mode.
9. Can I use the phone's native camera app for shooting when using the Smartphone Remote Control feature?
No. Smartphone Remote Control is based on network transmission and only supports shooting via the Insta360 app.
