Flow Series: Gimbal Settings in the Insta360 App
Flow Series: Gimbal Settings in the Insta360 App
Applicable Models: Flow 2 and Flow 2 Pro
The shooting interface of the Insta360 app provides controls for adjusting the gimbal's working modes and various parameters. The following is an introduction to the related features.
Access to gimbal settings
Open the Insta360 app and connect your gimbal. Once in the shooting interface, tap the gimbal icon in the left-side menu to access the gimbal settings.
Features on the shooting interface

- Home: Tap to return to the home page.
- Shot Genie: A variety of shooting templates are recommended automatically through two methods.
- Scene Recognition: Can be enabled or disabled in General Settings. Enabled by default. During video recording, the app automatically detects the current scene and suggests suitable shooting templates.
- Voice Control: Can be enabled or disabled in General Settings. Enabled by default. After tapping the Shot Genie icon, you can speak a keyword, and the app will match it to recommend relevant shooting templates.
- Flash: You can choose to turn the flash on permanently or off.
- Filter: Tap to turn the Filter on or off.
- Face Filter: Tap to turn the Face Filter on or off.
- Gesture Control: This feature allows you to control shooting and enable Single- or Multi-Person Tracking. After enabling Gesture Control, please face the camera with your full face clearly visible. Make a "✌️" gesture to trigger photo capture or start recording, a "🖐️" gesture to trigger Single-Person Tracking, or a "👆" gesture to trigger Multi-Person Tracking. After triggering a shot, making the same gesture again will stop the recording.* Note: Gesture Control is effective only within 4 meters of the camera. This feature may increase power consumption and may cause your phone to heat up.
- Teleprompter: You can input text in advance before recording, and it will automatically scroll during recording. You can use the gimbal's SmartWheel to control the scrolling direction (up or down).
- Tracking Box: This feature allows you to manually select one or multiple subjects. The gimbal automatically follows the chosen target(s), keeping them in a designated area of the frame (default: center of the screen; you can also adjust the framing manually using the gimbal's joystick during tracking). In the Multi-Person Tracking mode, the subject framed in a green bounding box is the primary target for tracking, while other detected subjects are framed in white bounding boxes. You can tap on a subject or turn the SmartWheel to switch the primary target for tracking.
- Smartphone Remote Control: Use another smartphone to scan the QR code, and you can preview in real-time or remotely control the gimbal's shooting features via the second smartphone. Before scanning the QR code, ensure both smartphones are connected to the Internet. You can choose one of the following three connection methods:
- Both phones use a 4G network: Recommended when both phones have strong cellular signals.
- Connect the second phone to the hotspot of the primary phone: Recommended when the cellular signal is weak.
- Connect both phones to the same Wi-Fi network.
Please note: The second phone does not require the Insta360 app to be installed for control; Android and iOS devices can be interconnected for remote control; this feature currently does not support 4K@60fps; before using the second phone in landscape orientation, you must first lock the screen on the second phone.
- Gimbal Battery Level: The current battery level of the gimbal is displayed.
- Phone Battery Level: The current battery level of the phone is displayed.
- Resolution and Frame Rate: Set different resolutions and video frame rates.
- Phone Camera Settings: Set various shooting parameters for the camera (shutter speed, ISO, EV, and WB).
- Gimbal Settings: Tap to select a gimbal mode and corresponding settings.
- Gimbal Mode: Choose from Auto, F, PF, or FPV.
- Zoom Wheel: Select Zoom or Manual Focus.
- Motor Strength: Select from High, Medium, or Low.
- Follow Speed: Set how fast the gimbal reacts to movement — options include Fast, Medium, or Slow.
- Joystick Speed: Set the joystick speed to Fast, Medium, or Slow.
- Barrel Roll Speed: Long press the C Button to activate the Barrel Roll mode. Switching speed levels can simultaneously adjust the Barrel Roll movement speed in different modes. You can choose Fast, Medium, or Slow.
- Barrel Roll Direction: Choose between Clockwise or Counterclockwise.
- Zoom Speed: Set to Linear, Fast, Medium, or Slow.
- Horse Tracking: Tap to toggle the Horse Tracking feature on or off. When enabled, press the Trigger Button or manually frame the desired horse, and Flow 2 Pro will prioritize and track the selected horse as the main subject.
- Front Cam Auto Tracking: When enabled, Flow 2 Pro automatically tracks the person in the frame as soon as you switch to the front camera.
- Always-On Tracking: When enabled, if the tracked person is obscured, Flow 2 Pro will maintain the tracking state and resume tracking as soon as the subject reappears.
- Reverse Joystick Horizontally: When enabled, pushing the joystick left or right will move the gimbal's pan axis in the opposite direction.
- Reverse Joystick Vertically: When enabled, pushing the joystick up or down will move the gimbal's tilt axis in the opposite direction.
- Sound and Vibration: Tap to turn the gimbal's sound and vibration on or off. (The Bluetooth reset tone cannot be turned off.)
- Auto Calibration: Can resolve gimbal tilt issues caused by environmental factors or incorrect operation. As prompted on the page, unfold the tripod and place the gimbal on a level surface to enable auto calibration. Do not touch the gimbal during the calibration process.
- Gimbal Horizontal Axis Adjustment: Before adjustment, ensure the top and bottom ends of the phone clamp are vertically aligned, unfold the tripod, and place the gimbal on a level surface. The horizontal axis can be adjusted in increments of 0.1 degrees, with a maximum adjustable range of 10 degrees. Do not twist or rotate the gimbal axes by hand during the adjustment.
- Camera Quick Start (for Android devices only): Disabled by default. After the smartphone has been paired with the gimbal via Bluetooth, the native camera app will automatically open the next time both the phone's Bluetooth and the gimbal are turned on.* This feature is not currently supported on some phone models, such as Samsung, Pixel, and Nothing devices. Please refer to the actual display for availability.
- Tracking Light: Tap to toggle the ring-shaped tracking light on or off. When enabled, you can adjust its brightness to Low, Medium, or High.
- General Settings: You can toggle on or off features including Grid, Histogram, Selfie Mirror, Dolby Vision (for iOS devices only), Apple ProRes (for iOS devices only), auto pop-up connection, Scene Recognition, Voice Control, and GPS; access tutorials, QuickStart Guide, and gimbal button instructions; view product information, such as device type and serial number.* To use Apple ProRes, an iPhone 13-16 Pro Max / Pro model running iOS 15.1 or higher is required.
- Tracking+ (for iOS devices only): Available only for fixed-position shooting with tripod support. When enabled, it enhances tracking sensitivity.* This feature cannot be turned on or off during recording.
- Active Zoom Tracking (for iOS devices only): Before shooting, you need to frame the main target to track, then tap to enable Active Zoom Tracking. This can improve the tracking performance of fast-moving subjects during telephoto shooting, keeping the subject always in the center of the frame, and quickly regaining tracking even if the subject is lost from the frame.* This feature cannot be turned on or off during recording.
- Pro Framing Grid: Based on the rule of thirds, this feature provides 9 composition points, allowing you to customize the position of the tracked subject within the frame. When using this feature, first frame the subject for tracking, then select a composition point. The tracked subject will remain in the selected position, no longer confined to the center of the frame.
- Auto Zoom: Tap to dynamically adjust the focal length based on the real-time distance to the tracked subject.* This option appears only when the tracked subject is a "person".
- Shooting Parameters: The current exposure mode, shutter speed, ISO value, and EV value are displayed.
- Zoom: The current zoom ratio is displayed. Long press the icon to enable the Zoom Wheel; you can also zoom in or out by pinching or spreading your fingers on the screen.
- Switch Front and Rear Cameras: Tap the icon to switch between the phone's front and rear cameras. When switching to the front camera, the gimbal automatically tracks the subject visible from that camera. This option can be disabled in gimbal settings.
- Shooting Modes: Swipe to select from various shooting modes.
- Pano Photo: Four modes are available. You can tap to take a 3x3, 180°, 240°, or 360° panorama photo. The device automatically takes 9, 5, 7, or 18 photos respectively and stitches them into one pano photo. Timed Capture is supported.
- Photo: Support single-shot and Timed Capture. Press and hold the Shutter Button to take Burst photos. You can choose to capture Live Photos, but the Face Filter and Filter features are not available for Live Photos.
- Video: Tap to record videos.
- Timelapse: Static Timelapse and Dynamic Timelapse are available. Dynamic Timelapse includes three options: Left to Right, Right to Left, and Custom Path. Tap the top center of the screen to set the shooting interval, recording duration, and the timelapse mode. It is recommended to unfold the tripod for better timelapse effects.
- TimeShift: Tap to record timelapse videos while moving.
- Slow Motion: Support slow-motion video recording at 120fps or 240fps.
- Dolly Zoom: While keeping the subject's position fixed in the frame, as you move forward or backward, the app automatically adjusts the focal length to compress or expand the background space, creating a dramatic, cinematic "sci-fi" visual effect.
- Widescreen Mode: The camera automatically switches to landscape orientation and records video in a 2.35:1 widescreen aspect ratio. Filters are enabled by default.
- Live Mode: After enabling, confirm and grant the necessary permissions (e.g., screen recording). When you switch away from the Insta360 app and open a third-party app, the tracking feature remains supported — such as in instant messaging apps, camera apps, video conferencing apps, live streaming apps, and more. Tap the Trigger Button to start tracking. (In this mode, only human subjects can be tracked.)
- Hoop Mode: You can choose Full Court or Half Court mode to capture and save highlight moments of scoring.
- Shutter Button: Tap to start or stop shooting.
- Album: Tap to view your previous photos and videos in the album.
