Ace Series: Unlevel Horizon / Gyroscope Abnormalities

Applicable Models: Ace, Ace Pro, and Ace Pro 2

Description

The camera exhibits issues such as the unlevel horizon, tilted image, abnormal flipping, or unintended rotation.

Solution

I. Enable the Horizon Lock feature

This feature helps keep the horizon level when holding the camera unstably or if the camera tilts/rotates, thus improving the quality of your media. You can enable the feature as follows:

1. How to enable:

• Before shooting, tap the "FOV" icon in the lower-right corner of the camera screen, then select the 45° Horizon Lock or 360° Horizon Lock option (displayed as "Horizon Lock" on Ace cameras).​
• Swipe up from the bottom edge of the camera screen to access the camera parameter settings. Set "Stabilization" to "Standard" or "High" (This feature is not supported when Stabilization is set to "Off").

Please note: This feature is only supported in the modes listed below and is not supported when shooting in a 4:3 aspect ratio.

2. Supported modes & shooting specifications:

• Ace: Video, Active HDR, and Loop Recording
• Ace Pro: Video and Loop Recording
• Ace Pro 2: Video, Loop Recording, and Dashcam
• Specifications: 4K@30/25/24fps, 2.7K@30/25/24fps, and 1080P@60/50/48/30/25/24fps

II. Use the FreeFrame Video Mode

If you need flexibility to adjust the horizon level during post-production, you can use the FreeFrame Video Mode. After shooting, you can perform horizon leveling adjustments using the Insta360 app or Insta360 Studio.

III. Calibrate gyroscope

If the footage appears tilted even when "Horizon Lock" is enabled, or the camera is held level during shooting, you can try calibrating the gyroscope.

Please note: Gyroscope calibration only affects photos or videos shot after the calibration is performed. For non-FreeFrame materials recorded, we recommend using the following third-party software for adjustment.

• Video software: Adobe Premiere 2019, Final Cut Pro X (v10.4 and above)
• Photo software: Adobe Photoshop 2019
