Link Series: Unable to Add Camera in Third-Party Software on Windows PC

Applicable Models: Link 2, Link 2C, Link 2 Pro, and Link 2C Pro

Description

On a Windows computer, when attempting to use an Insta360 Link Series camera in third-party software, you may experience the following issues:

  • An error message stating "Failed to add the camera: the camera is in use" appears.
  • The third-party software fails to recognize the Insta360 Link Series camera used.

Solution

1. Disable the "Preview" feature in Insta360 Link Controller

On Windows computers, you must first disable the Preview feature in Insta360 Link Controller before third-party software can properly access the camera's video stream. Please locate the "Camera" icon at the bottom of the main interface and turn it off.

2. Check if "Virtual Camera" is enabled
  • If you need to use the Virtual Camera features (e.g., Background Blur, Background Replacement, Makeup, etc.)

Open Insta360 Link Controller and ensure that the "Virtual Camera" feature is properly enabled. Then, go to the camera list in the third-party software and switch the input source to "Insta360 Virtual Camera".

  • If you don't need to use the Virtual Camera features

Open Insta360 Link Controller, click the "Camera" icon in the upper right corner, and turn off "Virtual Camera". Then, go to the camera list in the third-party software and manually select the corresponding model of your device (such as Insta360 Link 2 / Link 2C / Link 2 Pro / Link 2C Pro) to output the native video stream from the camera normally.
